Christ
College is a co-educational boarding and day school for pupils between the ages
of 11 and 18.
Last year’s Sixth Form continued the run of outstanding A level results with
18% of all A level grades achieving the challenging A* top grade. The 2010/11 A
level results were some of the best ever seen here with 77% of all grades
achieving the top A*-B grade. The GCSE results were equally impressive with the
best ever haul of top A* grades at the school as one in three of all entries
was awarded the A* grade. This is the second year in succession at the college
when more than 50% of all grades have been at A or A* level.
However, we teach well beyond and around the narrow requirements of
examinations, and believe that education takes place everywhere a pupil goes
and not just in the classroom. The high pupil participation rates in the Duke
of Edinburgh Award Scheme, the extremely popular Combined Cadet Force (CCF) and
our pupils’ successes in the sporting, music and drama arenas are evidence of
this.
With 342 pupils at Christ College, parents and guardians value the unique care
and attention that pupils receive from highly qualified and experienced staff.
At Christ College, education is about learning with enthusiasm and enjoyment in
a safe and stable environment.
Unique Points
The
tradition of learning at Christ College goes back as far as the 13th Century
when the black-robed Dominican preaching order founded the Friary of St
Nicholas on the site of the school. Founded in 1541 by Henry VIII together with
Eton and is one of only two independent schools with royal foundations.
Some 460 years later, the tradition of learning continues as Christ College
offers a wide range of academic, athletic and cultural activities, whilst
giving everyone the chance to form close friendships and to develop a real
sense of belonging.
Christ College is set in an area of outstanding natural beauty.
Entry Requirements
All new pupils have a programme of visits which is co-ordinated with their language study with the aim of broadening their awareness of British and particularly Welsh culture. All EAL pupils are entitled to four lessons per week without charge in their first year at Christ College. Thereafter the charge is £235 per term.
